Vancouver Eh?

The food in Vancouver is AMAZING! The seafood was delightful in every way. Let me just jump into the juicy details:

Kintaro Ramen Noodle
mere hours after landing, we headed straight to Kintaro Ramen Noodle to try their infamous Cheese Ramen. a line out the door on a tuesday morning? didn't deter me at all, just meant that it was worth the wait. we were in in less than 30 minutes and sat at a communal table (didn't want to appear touristy and take pictures of all of my food which is why i had to steal the picture below from a yelper). i ordered the Cheese Ramen with the lean broth and lean pork. big mistake! it was so bland but the gooey mounds of shredded and sliced mozzerella made up for it! i think i'll start adding shredded mozzerella to my top ramen now.

Hapa Izakaya
i'm textless thinking about the meal i had at Hapa Izakaya. Again no photos and there was a lot of sake throughout the meal so i'll do my best to describe my favourite dishes. Hapa Izakaya also has a great photo gallery. Check it out!

Grilled Saba: the saba is brought to the table on a bamboo leaf and they use a blowtorch to sear the skin. the most excellent piece of saba i've ever tasted!

Cho Wagyu: this dish was so fun to eat! a tiny hot stone is brought to the table along with thinly sliced beef. then you sear the beef to your liking. so fun and the beef was oh-so-tender...

Cheese Tofu: little cubes of cheese as silky as soft tofu get spread over toast. reminded me of warm brie but lighter.

Poutine
this plate of deliciousness should be illegal. fries, topped with gravy and cheese curds. perfect after a day of snowboarding. so addictive that i tried to recreate it when i got home.

Yoshi Japanese Restaurant
the sashimi at this restaurant was practically swimming. the toro was the most buttery, melt-in-your mouth piece of fish. the sake presentation was beautiful yet practical!

clockwise from top left: negitoro, scallops, tobiko, unagi, uni

tiny little fried crab

the sake was in a palm-sized vase and fit perfectly into a mound of shaved ice

wild sockeye salmon
the fresh salmon in vancouver is almost red in color. it didn't have the soapy taste that salmon has  here. since we couldn't bring fresh salmon home, we made sure to pick up a package of smoked sockeye salmon and king salmon before leaving vancouver. had a delicious smoked king salmon pasta the very next evening because we missed vancouver so much!

  1. Vancouver food is so awesome! I'm still thinking about all the food and how my slightly burnt potstickers don't compare!
